Jamal Uddin Ahmed is arguably one of the best-known visual artists in Bangladesh. He is widely thought to be the pioneer of acrylic painting in Bangladesh. He is best known for his kinetic, larger than life paintings of pigeons, horses, boats, gypsies, flood victims, fishermen, marine life and the mystic troubadours of Bangladesh.

Jamal Uddin Ahmed’s paintings grace homes and galleries across the world, and have earned him many accolades in Bangladesh and abroad, perhaps the most meaningful of which is the Ekushey Padak, the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, which he received in 2019.

Ahmed has done a teaching residency at the North Carolina State University, USA, and is a professor at the Department of Drawing & Painting of University of Dhaka under Faculty of Fine Art. As of 2019, he is the current president of the Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad.
